FOUNDING STORY

Mission Statement

Buy Back the Block Day is a community education and empowerment initiative dedicated to strengthening neighborhoods through credit education, banking literacy, healthy living, entrepreneurship, and local investment awareness. The organization exists to equip residents with practical knowledge and meaningful connections that support stronger families, healthier communities, and long-term neighborhood revitalization.

Program Description

Buy Back the Block Day brings together local residents, entrepreneurs, financial professionals, and community stakeholders to provide information, encouragement, and resources that help people invest back into their home cities. Participants receive guidance on credit repair, banking and account options, healthier food choices, and community development opportunities. The program is designed to inspire greater civic engagement, financial wellness, and community pride.

Buy Back Da Block was founded in 2022 by Brandon Davis, also known as Bentley Didier, with a vision to help communities recognize the power of investing back into the neighborhoods that shaped them. Motivated by a desire to create real change, Dr. Didier built the initiative as a community-centered effort focused on education, encouragement, and action. The goal from the beginning was to inspire residents to see ownership, financial literacy, and local investment as tools for long-term transformation.

The first Buy Back Da Block event was held in Indianapolis, where the vision came to life through the work of Shonte Davidson, who transformed her home block by purchasing homes and converting them into senior assisted living facilities. Her success became a powerful example of what is possible when community leadership meets purpose and strategy. Her journey showed that one block can become a model for broader neighborhood renewal, with her efforts growing into five homes, a corporate office, rental properties, and future commercial developments.

Building on that foundation, Dr. Didier is now expanding Buy Back Da Block into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to community education and empowerment. The next event will take place in Anniston, Alabama on September 27 in partnership with Kevin Myers, owner of The Tax Plug & Credit Repair Offices. Through credit repair education, banking information, healthy eating resources, and insights from entrepreneurs and community stakeholders, Buy Back Da Block continues Dr. Didier’s mission to equip residents with the knowledge and encouragement needed to invest back into their home cities for a greater future.
